CURRENT OPEN POSITIONS
Associate Director, Research & Development
Under the supervision of the Chief Executive Officer, Associate Director,
Research & Development will carry out the following responsibilities:
- Plan, direct, and coordinate a team of molecular biologists and
bioinformatics scientists in the implementation of Modular's high-throughput
platform for gene and strain engineering to produce bio-based chemicals;
- Perform metabolic modeling and extensive literature searches to design
experiments to meet project goals;
- Develop and validate computational tools for large scale data analysis
and Lab Information Management systems;
- Collaborate with scientists from other technical groups to ensure timely
progress in research projects;
- Serve as member of the management team at Modular to suggest project
tasks and goals and also to evaluate new projects; and
- Execute both project-related as well as business-related presentations at
collaborator meetings and conferences.
Requirements:
- PhD in Computational Biology or related field
- Experience with strain engineering and gene and protein engineering
- Demonstrated knowledge of computational biology and data analysis
including comprehensive working knowledge of common bioinformatics tools and
data analysis algorithms
- Demonstrated knowledge of programming and software development with Perl
and MySQL and of developing tools in both Linux and Windows working
environments
- Demonstrated knowledge of large scale data management including
implementation, database development, and computer programming
- Demonstrated knowledge of nucleic acid technology, including PCR, cloning,
sequence analysis, and mutagenesis and fermentation.
